Milagros Day Worldwide Annual Mother’s Day Walk 2013

Milagros Day Worldwide Annual Mother’s Day Walk 2013

WHO: Close to a thousand are expected to rally in front of City Hall Park and walk across New York’s iconic Brooklyn Bridge to remember those who have lost their lives and celebrate those who have overcome domestic violence in the second annual Milagros Day Worldwide Mother’s Day Walk. After the walk, the family fun day continues with a multicultural concert in Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn.

WHEN: Mother’s Day – Sunday, May 12, 2013

10 a.m.              Presentation and rally for press at Park Row and Centre
Street, Manhattan

11 a.m.               Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge in peaceful reflection

12 to 3 p.m.      Multicultural concert at Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn

WHY: One out of every three women will experience an incident of domestic violence during their lifetime; teenage girls being most at risk. Up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence each year, causing long-term negative emotional and psychological effects.

The walk is now a New York City tradition for families on Mother’s Day who want to do more than just the usual brunch with mom. The trek across the bridge symbolizes survivors walking away from the brutality of their past and highlighting their personal accomplishments. This year, Founder and President of Milagros Day Worldwide Dawn Diaz continues her organization’s Mother’s Day event. On the day of the walk, some survivors of domestic violence are willing to tell their story to the press.
